Introduction to nutrition and the food pyramid

The food pyramid guide for young children is a great way to teach children the  importance of eating healthy. Since obesity has seemingly began to take a over a greater part of our world, it is important to educate the different food groups the pyramid has to talk about. There are five main parts of the pyramid a child should become familiar with the grain group, vegetable group, fruit group, milk group and the meat group. Starting an eating problem early can cause bad health for children and can really endanger their safety. As quoted by Christine Haran: " Eating problems in younger children can take many forms, including irregular eating patterns, consistent overeating and consistent under-eating. Some children might start eating a mostly junk food diet, eating only one particular food or avoiding certain foods." Teaching children sooner about nutrition will prepare them for a better and safer future.

Do you think that the current educational system has gone about health education effectively in the past? I mean, each student in our generation received education about the food guide pyramid, and many people in our generation still have terrible eating habits. How could the educational system be improved in this area?
